The 3 Meal Prep Mistakes That Are Sabotaging Your Macros

Most people who start meal prepping quit within 2 weeks. Not because it's hard — because they're doing it wrong from the start.

Here are the 3 biggest mistakes I see:

1. You're eyeballing portions.

"A handful of rice" is not a measurement. If you're not weighing your carb sources, you're probably off by 200-400 calories per day. That's the difference between a cut and a bulk.

2. You're cooking the same 3 meals every week.

Chicken, rice, broccoli. Every. Single. Day. By Wednesday you're ordering DoorDash because you can't look at another bland container. Variety isn't a luxury — it's what keeps you consistent.

3. You're prepping without a plan.

You buy random groceries, cook whatever sounds good Sunday night, and end up with 8 containers of food that don't add up to your daily targets. Meal prep without macro targets is just cooking in bulk.

The fix is simple: plan your macros first, build meals that actually hit them, and rotate recipes weekly so you don't burn out.

That's exactly what we do inside PrepSmarter. Weekly plans, done-for-you grocery lists, macro-perfect portions, and enough variety that you'll actually look forward to eating out of a container.
