5 Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started Making Music

I spent 3 years making music nobody heard. Not because the music was bad — but because I had zero strategy, zero community, and zero accountability.

Here's what actually moved the needle:

1. Your first 50 songs will suck. Make them anyway.

Every hit artist has a graveyard of terrible tracks. The difference is they kept going. Quantity builds quality faster than perfectionism ever will.

2. Learn ONE instrument deeply before touching a DAW.

I jumped straight into production. Big mistake. Understanding an instrument gives you musical instincts that no plugin can replace. Even 3 months of piano changes everything.

3. Marketing isn't "selling out" — it's survival.

The best song in the world means nothing if zero people hear it. Learn to promote yourself like your career depends on it. Because it does.

4. Collaborate before you're "ready."

You'll never feel ready. Work with other artists NOW. You'll learn faster, make connections, and create things you never could alone.

5. Join a community of people doing the same thing.

Music is lonely. Having a crew that shares opportunities, gives honest feedback, and keeps you accountable is the #1 cheat code.

That's exactly why I built SoundForge Studio — a space where musicians at every level can learn, grow, and actually get heard.
