The 2-minute rewrite that stops ChatGPT from sounding like ChatGPT
Freelancers are not losing work because AI is bad. They are losing it because the draft still sounds like a press release.
Here is the pass I run on every ChatGPT or Claude output before it goes to a client:
1. Kill the throat-clearing.
Delete the first sentence if it starts with "In today's fast-paced…" or "I hope this email finds you well." Clients do not need a preamble. They need the point.
2. Replace abstractions with their numbers.
"Improve conversion" becomes "lift checkout completion from 2.1% to 2.8%." If you do not have the number, ask. Vague copy is how people detect the model.
3. Force a human opinion.
Add one sentence the model will not volunteer: what you would not do. "Skip the 8-email drip. One tight follow-up in 48 hours beats a sequence nobody reads."
4. Read it out loud once.
If you would not say it on a Zoom with the client, cut it.
I keep 150+ prompts that already bake this pass in — proposals, outreach, research, ops — so the first draft is closer to sendable. Steal the rewrite above either way.
If you want the vault, it is a one-time unlock. No monthly drip.
