The #1 reason beginners quit the gym (and how to fix it)

It's not motivation. It's not genetics. It's not even time.

It's walking into the gym with no plan.

Think about it — you show up, look around, maybe do some bench press because the bench is open, throw in some curls, do 10 minutes on the treadmill, and leave feeling like you wasted your time. After a few weeks of that, you stop going.

The fix is stupidly simple: follow a structured program.

Here's a dead-simple beginner split that actually works:

Day A — Push

  • Bench Press: 3x8

  • Overhead Press: 3x10

  • Incline Dumbbell Press: 3x10

  • Tricep Pushdowns: 3x12

Day B — Pull

  • Barbell Rows: 3x8

  • Lat Pulldowns: 3x10

  • Face Pulls: 3x15

  • Dumbbell Curls: 3x12

Day C — Legs

  • Squats: 3x8

  • Romanian Deadlifts: 3x10

  • Leg Press: 3x10

  • Calf Raises: 3x15

Alternate A/B/C with rest days between. Track your weights. Add 2.5kg every week or two.

That's it. No overthinking. No program hopping. Just show up and follow the plan.

I'm building PulsUp to make this even easier — structured tracking, progress visibility, and a community of beginners doing it together. If that sounds like what you need, check it out.
