1. Map Your Transferable Skills (Not Your Job Titles)

Your job title is industry-specific. Your skills are not. A "Marketing Manager" at a SaaS company has project management, data analysis, stakeholder communication, and budget ownership — all of which translate to operations, product, and strategy roles in any industry.

Action: Write down 20 things you do at work. Remove any industry jargon. What's left is your actual skill set.

2. Target the "Bridge Roles"

Don't try to jump from Finance → Healthcare in one move. Look for roles that sit between your current industry and your target — these are the roles that explicitly value cross-industry experience.

Examples:

• Finance → FinTech → HealthTech

• Education → EdTech → SaaS

• Retail → E-commerce → DTC Brand

Action: Search for roles that mention "cross-functional" or "diverse background" in the job description. Those are bridge roles.

3. Reverse-Engineer the Job Description

Most people read job descriptions to see if they qualify. Instead, read them to learn the language of your target industry. Every industry has its own vocabulary, and using the right words in your resume and interviews signals that you belong.

Action: Copy 10 job descriptions in your target role. Highlight repeated phrases. Those go into your resume verbatim.

4. Lead With Results, Not Responsibilities

"Managed a team of 12" means nothing across industries. "Grew revenue 40% in 18 months by restructuring the sales pipeline" translates everywhere.

Action: Rewrite every bullet on your resume using the formula: [Action verb] + [quantified result] + [method/context]

5. Build a 30-Day Interview Sprint

The biggest mistake career switchers make is applying passively — 2 apps here, 3 apps there, over 6 months. Instead, compress your search into a focused sprint:

• Week 1: Optimize resume + identify 30 target roles

• Week 2: Apply to all 30 + start networking outreach

• Week 3: Interview prep + mock interviews

• Week 4: Interviews + follow-up

Compression creates momentum. Momentum creates options. Options create leverage.
