Been sourcing and authenticating vintage/deadstock sneakers for a while now, and there are a few things I see flippers overlook constantly:

1. Box label fonts don't match the era.

Reprinted boxes are everywhere. If the font weight or spacing on a box from a supposedly '99 release looks crisp and modern, be suspicious. Original box labels from that era have specific font irregularities depending on the factory.

2. "Deadstock" doesn't mean "unworn."

A lot of deadstock inventory sat in warehouses for 20+ years — midsoles yellow, glue lines separate, foam compresses even without a single wear. Always ask for close-up shots of the midsole and insole, not just the outsole.

3. Lace aglets and stitching thread color drift over decades.

Manufacturers changed suppliers over time. If you're comparing a "matching pair" from two different sources, mismatched aglet material or stitch color is often the tell before you even check the tag.
