Watch parties that don't steal the show

Most "watch together" groups fall apart for the same two reasons: someone dumps a shady link, or everyone hits play at a different time and the chat becomes a spoiler machine.

I've been running rewatches with friends for years. The format that actually lasts:

1. Everyone uses their own legal app.

Crunchyroll, Netflix, HIDIVE, whatever already has the title. If someone doesn't have access, we pick a different title — we don't "find a site." That's how groups get shut down, and it's how you get malware.

2. One person owns the clock.

Post the exact start time in one place. "Around 8" is how you get three people 12 minutes ahead. Host says "3, 2, 1, play." If someone buffers, we pause. If someone is late, they catch up silently — no "wait what just happened."

3. Spoilers have a fence.

First 10 minutes: reactions only, no plot. After that, talk. If you're rewatching, tag the year/season so first-timers can mute the thread.

4. Pick titles people can actually stream.

A 2003 deep cut that only exists on a dead DVD is a flex, not a party. Check availability in the US (and wherever your people live) before you lock the date.

5. Keep it small.

12 people who show up beats 200 who lurk and leak. Paid dues sound cold until you've moderated a free Discord. A small club that pays for the room takes it seriously.

That's Rewatch. $12/month, members-only lounge, forum, calendar, and a live party room. We don't host video. We host the people watching it.

If that's how you already watch with friends, the door's open.
