The #1 thing holding back self-taught dancers
Most self-taught dancers hit a wall around month 6. You can learn combos from YouTube, copy TikTok choreography — but at some point you realize you're just mimicking, not actually dancing.
The missing piece? Body isolation.
If you can't move your chest without your hips following, or your head without your shoulders tensing up, everything you do will look stiff.
Here's a 5-minute drill that changed everything for my students:
The Freeze Frame Drill:
Pick one body part (head, chest, hips, shoulders)
Play a song at 70-80 BPM
Move ONLY that part for 30 seconds — everything else frozen
Cycle through all 4 zones, repeat 3x
Do this every day for a week. Film day 1 and day 7. The difference is real.
I teach this inside Rhythm Revolution — a structured monthly dance course for students who actually want to get better. Come check it out.
