The bet that's actually costing you money isn't the loss — it's the size

Most casual bettors lose to variance, not bad picks. Here's the math nobody explains at the sportsbook:

If you're flat-betting the same amount on a 55% win rate play, you can still go on a 6-8 game losing streak — that's not bad luck, that's just how binomial variance works over a season. The bettors who blow up aren't the ones with bad information, they're the ones who bet the same (or more) size after a loss trying to "get it back."

The fix is boring: unit sizing. Pick a bankroll, bet 1-3% of it per play depending on confidence, and never deviate chasing a loss. It won't feel exciting. It's also the only thing that survives a bad week.

We built Rineage around this — vetted picks with a stated confidence level so sizing isn't a guess. If you want to see how we grade our own plays (public track record, no cherry-picking), come find us.
