The one thing that changed my running forever (it's not what you think)

When I was 15, I ran a 24-minute 5K on my JV cross country team. Nobody looked at me and saw a future Olympian. Including me.

9 years later I ran 2:11:41 at the Paris Olympics and set the Sudanese national record.

People always ask what changed. They expect me to say I found a secret workout, or I got lucky with genetics that kicked in late. The real answer is less exciting and way more useful:

I built a system.

Not a training plan — a system. There's a difference.

A training plan tells you what to do on Tuesday. A system tells you how to make decisions about your training every single day, for years, through injuries, life changes, and plateaus.

I call it the Kairos Method. The core of it is 3 principles:

  1. Specificity over volume. Most runners just run more. That works until it doesn't. Every mile needs to earn its place.

  1. Recovery is a skill. Not just "take a rest day." Structured recovery that compounds over months. This is where 90% of runners leave time on the table.

  1. Race the process. If you're only motivated on race day, you've already lost. The system makes the daily work feel like progress, because it is.

I built Run Plus Coaching around this method. The community runs $39/mo — weekly coaching calls, accountability pods, the full Kairos Method Library, and direct access to me every month.

If you're a runner who's been putting in the work but not seeing the results match the effort, this is for you.
