The unglamorous truth about getting your first 10 SaaS users
Everyone talks about 'launch strategy' like it's some clever trick. It's not. Here's what actually worked getting from 0 to first paying users on the last few products I've touched:
1. DM people, don't post and pray. A cold DM to someone who has the exact problem you solved converts 10x better than a tweet into the void. Aim for 20 DMs before you touch a landing page redesign.
2. Charge from day one, even if it's awkward. Free users lie to you about whether your product is good. Paying users tell the truth in their support tickets.
3. Ship the ugly version. If you're embarrassed by v1, you shipped at the right time. Polish is a distraction from finding out if anyone wants this.
4. Your first 10 users are a research project, not a growth channel. Talk to every single one. Ask what almost stopped them from paying. That answer is your roadmap.
Building SaaS Navigator because I kept having this exact conversation 1:1 with founders and figured we should all just be in a room together. If you're heads-down building right now, curious — what's the thing you're stuck on this week?
