Most "Malaysia MM2H" content online doesn't apply to Sarawak — and it's costing people time and money

I've spent a while digging into what it actually looks like to consider Sarawak, Malaysia as a second home or retirement base, and the biggest issue I keep running into isn't cost or paperwork — it's that almost everything people read first is about the wrong programme.

Sarawak runs its own long-stay pathway, the Sarawak–Malaysia My Second Home programme (S-MM2H), separate from the national MM2H scheme most blog posts and YouTube videos are actually talking about. Different state, different process, different considerations. If you've been reading up on "Malaysia MM2H" and assuming it transfers over 1:1 to Sarawak, some of what you've absorbed probably doesn't apply.

A few things that seem to trip people up most:

• Assuming Kuching is priced and paced like Kuala Lumpur or Bali. It isn't — slower, more affordable day-to-day, but with real trade-offs in international school choice and long-haul flight connections.

• Assuming any consultant or guide can "guarantee approval." Nobody legitimate can promise a government decision, on any programme, in any country.

• Skipping the honest lifestyle-fit conversation (climate, pace, community size, family alignment) and jumping straight to "how do I apply," which usually leads to spending money on a process before knowing if you'd actually want to live there.

I put together a free eligibility and lifestyle checklist and a longer paid guide on everyday life in Sarawak (culture, cost of living, healthcare, housing, food, nature, connectivity) specifically to separate "is this the right place for me" from "how do I apply."
