Don't put your receptionist in someone else's cloud

Most "AI for small business" pitches are a login to a chatbot that sends every customer name to a vendor you will never meet.

If it answers the phone, takes bookings, or reads your policies, it is handling the same data a hired receptionist would. You wouldn't mail that person a copy of your books every night.

Run it on a box you own. Under the desk is fine. We clean the machine, upgrade it if it's dying, then install the agent for one job — not "AI for everything."

Same shop does the unglamorous work: malware cleanup, RAM and SSD, and a pentest that is not a $499 checkbox scan.

If you want the agent, write the job in one sentence first. If you can't, you're not ready.

5 Things I Find on Every Home Network Audit

I've been doing security assessments for businesses and homes for years. Here are the 5 vulnerabilities I find on almost every single home network:

1. Default router credentials. Most people never change the admin username and password on their router. If someone gets on your Wi-Fi, they own your entire network.

2. IoT devices with zero security. Smart cameras, doorbells, thermostats — most of them run outdated firmware and sit on the same network as your personal devices. One compromised camera = access to everything.

3. No network segmentation. Your kid's gaming PC, your work laptop, and your smart fridge shouldn't be on the same network. Period.

4. Outdated firmware everywhere. Routers, access points, NAS drives — if it hasn't been updated in 6+ months, it's probably vulnerable to known exploits.

5. Wi-Fi passwords shared with everyone. If 15 people have your Wi-Fi password, you don't have a secure network. You have a public hotspot.

The fix for most of these takes less than an hour. But finding them requires knowing where to look.

That's what we do at Karma Cyber Security — red team assessments for businesses and homes that find your weak spots before someone else does.
