Here's the secret the aquarium industry doesn't want you to know: nature already figured this out.

A Natural Father Fish Aquarium — uses soil, live plants, and biological balance instead of expensive equipment. The plants filter the water. The fish feed the plants. It's a closed loop that's been working in ponds and rivers for millions of years.

Here's the basic setup:

🪴 Substrate: 1 inch of organic potting soil (no fertilizer added), capped with 1 inch of gravel or sand.

🌱 Plants: Start with easy species — java fern, anubias, hornwort, duckweed. These are nearly impossible to kill and they'll do the heavy lifting on filtration.

🐟 Fish: Start small. Endlers, guppies, or a betta.

💡 Light: A simple desk lamp or clip-on LED for 8-10 hours a day. Plants need light to photosynthesize, which is how they clean your water.

💧 Water changes: Once the tank is established (2-3 weeks), you'll barely need them. Maybe 10-20% every other week.

That's it. No CO2 injection. No $200 canister filter. No liquid ferts. Just dirt, water, plants, and patience.
