5 ways to hear God when Sunday isn't enough
If you're a Christian who leaves church on Sunday feeling full — but by Wednesday you're running on empty — you're not alone.
Most of us were taught one way to connect with God: show up, sing, listen, go home. But the Bible shows dozens of ways people encountered the divine. Here are 5 that changed everything for me:
1. Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading)
Pick 4-5 verses. Read them slowly, four times. First for the words. Second for a phrase that stands out. Third, sit with that phrase in silence. Fourth, respond to God about it. This isn't Bible study — it's Bible listening.
2. Prayer walking
Put in your earbuds, play worship music (or nothing at all), and walk your neighborhood praying for the people in every house you pass. You'll start seeing your community through God's eyes.
3. The Daily Examen
At the end of each day, ask two questions: "Where did I feel closest to God today?" and "Where did I feel furthest?" It takes 5 minutes and it will rewire how you see your days.
4. Fasting with intention
Skip a meal and replace it with 30 minutes of prayer. The hunger becomes a reminder that your spirit needs feeding too. Start small — one meal, one day.
5. Serving in silence
Do something kind for someone and tell absolutely nobody. Not your spouse, not your small group, not Instagram. Let it be between you and God alone.
Church is beautiful. But your relationship with God doesn't have to pause between Sundays.
If any of this resonates, we're building a community around exactly this. Seeking Light is free to join — come explore with us. 🕊️
