5 ingredients you should stop putting on sensitive skin immediately
I spent 3 years dealing with eczema flare-ups before I realized my "gentle" products were the problem.
Here's what I learned the hard way:
1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
It's in 90% of body washes. Makes things foam, but strips your skin barrier. If your skin feels "squeaky clean" after a shower โ that's damage, not cleanliness.
2. Synthetic fragrance
"Fragrance" on a label can mean 50+ undisclosed chemicals. It's the #1 cause of contact dermatitis. If it smells like a candle, your skin probably hates it.
3. Denatured alcohol
Dries everything out. Especially brutal on eczema-prone skin. Check for "alcohol denat." or "SD alcohol" on labels.
4. Parabens
Preservatives that can trigger irritation in sensitive skin. Methylparaben, propylparaben โ learn to spot them.
5. Essential oils
Yes, even "natural" ones. Tea tree, lavender, peppermint โ they're potent irritants for reactive skin. Natural โ gentle.
The fix? Fewer ingredients, better ingredients. That's why I built Velvet Body Co. โ clean body care that actually works for people with skin issues, not against them.
If any of this hits home, check out our Sensitive Skin Starter Kit. It's what I wish existed when I was struggling.
