The only 3 exercises a beginner actually needs

Most beginners quit the gym within 6 weeks. Not because they're lazy โ€” because they try to do too much on day one.

Here's the truth: you don't need a 6-day PPL split. You don't need 14 supplements. You need three movements and consistency.

1. Goblet Squat

Builds your legs, core, and teaches you how to move properly. Start with a light dumbbell. 3 sets of 10. That's it.

2. Push-ups (any variation)

Can't do a full push-up? Start on your knees or against a wall. No shame โ€” everyone starts somewhere. 3 sets of as many as you can do with good form.

3. Dumbbell Row

Grab a dumbbell, hinge at the hips, pull it to your ribcage. This builds the back muscles that fix your posture from sitting all day. 3 sets of 10 each side.

Do these 3x a week for a month. That's 12 sessions. By session 8, you'll feel stronger than you have in years.

The mistake isn't being a beginner. The mistake is training like you're not one.

I write about simple fitness stuff like this every week at Shape of Year. If you're tired of overcomplicating it, come hang.
