Why most sports bettors lose (and it's not because their picks are bad)

Ran the numbers on my own betting history going back 3 years before I ever sold a pick. The picks were fine — hit rate around 54% on sides/totals. The account still bled money.

The leak wasn't analysis. It was structure:

  • Parlays. A 6-leg parlay at 55% per leg is a 2.8% shot dressed up as a fun Tuesday.

  • No unit sizing. Betting $50 on a coinflip and $50 on your best read of the week is how one bad Sunday erases three good weeks.

  • Chasing. Down $200 on Sunday night football turns into a same-game parlay you'd never touch sober.

Fixing those three things did more for my bottom line than any 'lock of the day' ever did. If you want the discipline system (and the daily picks) built around this, that's what I'm building at Sharp Slate. But even if you never join, fix your unit sizing first. It matters more than your picks.
