The real reason 'no time to work out' is a myth (and what actually works)

I spent years thinking I needed an hour at the gym or it wasn't worth doing. That belief kept me out of shape for most of my 20s while working a desk job.

What actually changed things: cutting the session to 20 minutes and removing every decision from the process. Not "I'll figure out my workout when I get there" — a fixed 4-week rotation I never had to think about. Same with food: 4-5 repeatable meals instead of new recipes every night.

A few things I learned the hard way:

  • Willpower is a terrible long-term strategy. Structure beats motivation every time.

  • Bodyweight + a pair of dumbbells covers 90% of what you need. Equipment isn't the bottleneck.

  • Batch-cooking on Sunday removes more friction than any diet trick.

  • Progress photos every 2 weeks, not daily. Daily fluctuations will make you quit.

If you're a busy professional who's tried the "get back in shape" thing a dozen times, the fix probably isn't more discipline — it's less overhead. Built this into a full system (workouts + meal plans) called Shred Vault if anyone wants the exact structure I use. But honestly, even just applying the "remove decisions" principle on your own will move the needle.
