Why most 'stock promotion' campaigns fail (and what actually moves retail volume)

I've run retail marketing campaigns for public companies for a while now, and the biggest mistake I see micro-cap teams make is treating Stocktwits/X promotion like a numbers game — blast the ticker everywhere, buy some bot engagement, hope for a volume spike.

It doesn't work like that. Here's what actually moves the needle:

1. Conviction beats reach. A post from 500 engaged traders who actually believe the thesis outperforms 50,000 passive impressions every time. Retail investors can smell paid hype from a mile away now — they've been burned too many times.

2. Timing matters more than volume. Campaigns synced to catalysts (earnings, FDA news, contract wins) convert 3-5x better than "always-on" promotion. If you're spending budget on quiet weeks, you're burning it.

3. The story has to survive scrutiny. If your campaign drives someone to actually read the filings and the story falls apart, you've made a short-term trader and a long-term critic. Real retail marketing should hold up under a 10-minute DD session.

We built Side Hustling's Bullish Signal service around these three principles — real accounts, catalyst-timed pushes, and messaging that's built to survive due diligence, not avoid it.

If you're a public company or IR team curious how a real campaign is structured (not a bot farm), happy to break it down in the comments.
