Both volumes. 1,415 pages. Every photograph twice.
US Command sets out the hundred Americans who held operational command between 1939 and 1945 — one format, one length, one standard of proof, and in every chapter the one claim the documents do not settle. US Command in Color takes the same 716 photographs and presents them as a gallery.
What you get
Why both
The color is an interpretation, produced by a generative model. The monochrome original is the record. The pair is the only way to see both — to look at a color plate, then turn to the same photograph as the archive actually holds it, captioned and credited from its own file.
That is this book’s method applied to its own pictures: what is evidence and what is inference, kept visibly apart.
Before you buy
Two downloads. The reference is about 66 MB; the color volume is image-heavy at roughly 195 MB, so get that one on wifi. Both are fixed-layout and read best on a tablet, laptop or desktop.
It prints what the official record contains, and says so when it contains nothing.
