Ran a lot of exotic and luxury cars through our mobile detailing setup this year, and the paint damage almost never comes from what owners expect.

It's not rock chips. It's not the occasional rainstorm. It's these three habits:

1. Automatic car washes with brushes. Those brushes are shared across hundreds of cars a day and pick up grit that scratches every panel they touch. If you value your paint, this is the #1 thing to stop doing immediately.

1. Drying with the wrong towel. A lot of people still wipe cars down with whatever towel is in the garage. Any towel that isn't a clean, dedicated microfiber is dragging trapped dirt across your clear coat every single time.

1. Letting bird droppings and tree sap sit. Both are acidic and start etching into clear coat within hours in direct sun. If you can't wash it off immediately, at least rinse the spot with water to dilute it.

The fix for all three is boring but effective: hand wash only, dedicated clean microfiber, and a regular maintenance schedule so contaminants never get the chance to sit.
