The 5 contracts every freelancer needs (that most skip)
I've seen hundreds of freelancers lose money over the same 5 missing contracts. Here's the breakdown:
1. Service Agreement — Defines exactly what you're delivering, when, and for how much. Without this, scope creep eats your margins alive.
2. NDA — Protects both sides. Clients feel safer sharing details, and you can showcase your process without exposing their data.
3. Payment Terms — "Net 30" sounds professional until you're chasing invoices at day 60. Spell out late fees, deposit requirements, and kill switches.
4. Revision Policy — "Can you just make one more change?" is the most expensive sentence in freelancing. Cap revisions. Define what counts as a revision.
5. Scope of Work Addendum — Projects change. That's fine. But changes should be documented with new timelines and pricing. This is how you avoid "but I thought that was included."
Most freelancers don't get these until after they've been burned. Don't be that freelancer.
