Most traders chase win rate. "I'm at 65% winners." Cool. Means nothing if your average loss is 3x your average win.
Expected value is different. It's what you actually make per trade when you account for everything—win rate, size of wins, size of losses, the firm's cut, whatever they're taking off the top.
EV = (Win Rate × Avg Win) − (Loss Rate × Avg Loss) − Fees.
That's the game. That's literally all that matters.
Here's what separates traders who compound from traders who blow accounts: the ones still standing know their EV before they take the trade. They execute the same edge 100 times, knowing the math works.
The catch? You gotta catch your win streak with enough risk behind it to pass the challenge. A perfect strategy means nothing if you're sizing so small the payout never comes. You need EV and the size to actually hit the threshold. That's when the door opens.
Most traders never calculate it. They just trade. Then wonder why they're down by Q3.
