Bike theft in Las Vegas is a numbers game — here's how the recovery network actually works

Vegas and North Vegas lose a stunning number of bikes and ebikes every month — a lot of it organized, not opportunistic. Bikes get flipped on Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp within hours, often re-listed 50+ miles away.

Here's the pattern I kept seeing before starting this: victims post once on their personal page, get a few shares, and the trail goes cold in a day. Meanwhile the same 3-4 resale accounts keep recycling stolen inventory because nobody's watching consistently.

What actually moves the needle:

  1. Serial numbers registered before theft happens. Cops and pawn shops can't act on "it's a black Trek" — they can act on a serial number.

  2. A dedicated, always-on channel — not a general neighborhood group where a bike alert gets buried under yard sale posts within the hour.

  3. Cross-posting the moment it's stolen, not after you've already called around town.

Built a group focused on exactly this — real-time alerts, serial number registry, and a network of local riders/shops watching resale listings. Vegas/North Vegas first, but stolen bikes cross state lines constantly, so it's open nationwide too.

If you've had a bike stolen here or just want to help keep an eye out, worth a look.
