A lot of new traders think the goal is to predict where price goes next. It's not. Even experienced traders are wrong close to half the time. What actually separates consistent traders from everyone else is what happens around the trade — not the trade itself.
Three things matter more than your prediction accuracy:
A pre-trade checklist
Before entering anything, run through the same checks every time: Is this setup aligned with your strategy? Is the risk defined? Are you trading because of a signal, or because you're bored/anxious? A simple checklist removes 90% of impulsive entries.
Position sizing, not gut feel
"How much do I put in?" should never be a feeling — it should be a calculation based on your stop-loss distance and your max risk per trade (1-2% is the standard floor). If you're sizing by vibes, you're gambling with extra steps.
A cooldown after losses
The single most account-destroying habit is revenge trading — doubling down right after a loss to "win it back." The fix is mechanical, not willpower: a forced lockout period after a loss, no exceptions.
None of this requires being right more often. It requires being consistent more often — which is a much more learnable skill.
