Why I built 10 Excel templates instead of another SaaS dashboard

I built a $15 toolkit that replaces the spreadsheets most small businesses cobble together from scratch — and I want to share why "boring" Excel still wins for solo operators.

Every small business owner I've talked to has the same 4-5 spreadsheets scattered across Google Drive: one for expenses, one someone half-built for invoices, a "cash flow thing" they stopped updating in March. None of them talk to each other, and none of them have real formulas.

So I built 10 templates that actually do the math for you:

  • Expense & Sales trackers with auto-totals

  • A Profit (P&L) tracker broken out by month

  • Cash Flow tracker with a running balance formula

  • An Invoice template ready to send

  • Accounts Receivable + Customer Payments logs that calculate balance due automatically

  • Inventory tracker with an auto reorder flag

  • Employee Attendance tracker that computes hours worked from clock in/out

  • A Monthly Dashboard that rolls your net profit and cash flow into one view

No dashboard software to learn, no monthly fee, no login. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers and you're running your numbers in five minutes.

If you're running a small business solo and duct-taping your financials together in random tabs, this might save you a weekend of spreadsheet-building.

Why most small business owners don't need accounting software (yet)

Ran the numbers for a few small businesses this year and noticed the same pattern every time: owners were paying $30-100/month for accounting software to track maybe 200 transactions a month. That's overkill.

If you're under ~$500k in revenue and don't need multi-user access or bank sync, a well-built spreadsheet does the same job for a fraction of the cost — and you actually understand your numbers because you're the one typing them in.

The 10 things that actually matter for most small businesses:

  • Expenses (where's the money going)

  • Sales (what's coming in)

  • Profit (are you actually making money)

  • Cash flow (do you have enough on hand)

  • Invoices (get paid faster)

  • Accounts receivable (who owes you)

  • Payments received (reconcile against invoices)

  • Inventory (what you have vs. what you've sold)

  • Attendance (if you have even one employee)

  • A monthly dashboard (the 30-second health check)

I put all 10 into ready-to-use Excel templates with the formulas already built in — no setup, no tutorials required. $15, one-time, instant download. Built it because I got tired of rebuilding the same trackers for every small business I looked at.
