3 things most parking lot operators get wrong about access control
After years of installing and managing parking systems, here are the mistakes I see over and over:
1. Buying the cheapest barrier gates
Cheap gates fail in 6 months. The motor burns out, the arm warps, and suddenly you're losing revenue every time the gate stays open. Invest in commercial-grade equipment from day one — the ROI is immediate.
2. Ignoring payment system integration
Your barrier, payment kiosk, and management software need to talk to each other. Too many operators buy components from 3 different vendors and spend months trying to make them work together. Get an integrated system or you'll pay the price in downtime.
3. No plan for virtual/barrier-free options
Not every lot needs physical barriers. Smaller lots and surface parking can use virtual fence systems with ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) at a fraction of the cost. Most operators don't even know this exists.
We provide all three tiers — basic barrier systems, advanced payment integration, and barrier-free virtual solutions. If you're managing a parking operation and want to chat about what makes sense for your setup, come check us out.
