Most creators are sleeping on YouTube Shorts.
TikTok gets all the hype, but Shorts has quietly become one of the best platforms for creators who want to get paid. Here's why — and how to take advantage.
The monetization math:
YouTube Shorts now pays creators through the YouTube Partner Program. The RPM is lower than long-form (~$0.04-0.07 per 1,000 views), but the volume potential is insane. I've seen creators pull $500-2,000/month from Shorts alone — on top of what they earn from TikTok.
But here's what most people miss: Shorts aren't just about ad revenue.
The real money is in the funnel.
Use Shorts to drive traffic to:
Your paid community or course
Your email list
Your long-form YouTube content (where RPM is 10-50x higher)
Your products and services
One creator I know makes $200/month from Shorts ad revenue but $8,000/month from the course she promotes through her Shorts. The content is the marketing, not the product.
How to repurpose TikTok content for Shorts:
Remove the TikTok watermark (use SnapTik or download before posting)
Re-edit the first 1.5 seconds — Shorts hooks need to be slightly different than TikTok hooks because the audience behavior is different
Add a stronger CTA — YouTube users are more likely to click through to a link or profile than TikTok users
Post at different times — YouTube's audience peaks differently than TikTok's
The cross-platform playbook:
Post on TikTok first (fastest feedback loop), optimize based on what performs, then repurpose your winners to YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. One piece of content, three platforms, 3x the reach.
I made $60K last year by treating short-form content as a business, not a hobby. The system works — you just have to be intentional about it.
The biggest lie in the creator space: "You just need one viral video."
No, you don't. I've had videos hit 5M+ views that brought me zero followers. And I've had videos get 50K views that brought in hundreds of followers and actual paying customers.
The difference? Intent.
Viral ≠ Growth. A video can go viral because it's funny, shocking, or controversial. But if it doesn't attract YOUR target audience, those views are worthless. You'll get a dopamine hit and nothing else.
Here's what actually matters:
1. Niche hooks beat broad hooks.
"3 TikTok mistakes killing your growth" will outperform "This is crazy" every single time — for building an audience that actually cares about what you sell.
2. Your first 3 seconds determine everything.
The algorithm doesn't care about your content quality. It cares about retention. If 80% of viewers swipe away in the first 2 seconds, your video is dead. Spend more time on your hook than your entire script.
3. Consistency compounds.
I didn't get to 40M views from one video. I got there from posting nearly every single day for months. Most of my videos flopped. The ones that hit? They hit because I had enough reps to know what worked.
4. Track your analytics obsessively.
After every video, check: average watch time, completion rate, shares, and profile visits. Profile visits are the metric nobody talks about — that's the one that tells you whether your content is converting viewers into followers.
Stop chasing virality. Start building a system.
That's exactly what I teach — a repeatable framework, not guesswork. But even if you never buy anything from me, this shift in mindset will change your results.
Everyone overcomplicates this.
I've grown to 40M+ views. If I lost everything and had to start over tomorrow, here's my week 1 playbook:
Days 1-3: Study, don't post.
Go find 10 creators in your niche with under 50K followers who are getting 100K+ views. Screenshot their top videos. Write down: the hook (first 3 seconds), the format, the length, and the CTA.
You're not copying. You're learning the patterns that work RIGHT NOW.
Days 4-5: Batch your first 10 videos.
Use the patterns you found. Film all 10 in one sitting. Keep every video under 45 seconds. Your hook needs to land in the first 1.5 seconds — if it doesn't, nothing else matters.
Here's what most people get wrong: they try to be original before they understand what works. Original comes later. Proven formats come first.
Days 6-7: Post 3x/day and track everything.
Post at 9am, 1pm, and 6pm (your audience's timezone, not yours). Screenshot your analytics after 24 hours. The one video that performs best? That's your format. Make 10 more like it.
The real secret: Growth on TikTok isn't about talent or luck. It's about speed of iteration. The faster you test, the faster you find what works for YOUR audience.
Most creators post 3 times a week and wonder why they're not growing. You need to be posting 3 times a day for the first month. Volume is the cheat code nobody talks about.
I break down the full system — hooks, analytics, monetization — inside my TikTok & YouTube Monetization System. But honestly, this post alone is enough to get your first 10K followers if you actually execute.
Stop planning. Start posting.
Most TikTok and YouTube Shorts advice is recycled garbage. "Post consistently." "Use trending sounds." Cool — so does everyone else with 200 followers.
Here's what actually matters after 40M+ views and $60K+ earned on TikTok:
The algorithm doesn't care about your content if nobody watches past second two. I've tested hundreds of hooks — the ones that consistently break 1M views follow a specific pattern:
They call out a mistake ("Stop doing X")
They promise a specific result ("Here's how I made $X with Y")
They create an open loop ("Nobody talks about this, but...")
I put together 7 of my highest-performing hooks — the exact ones that each got me over 1M views — and broke down why they work. It's free.
If someone can scroll away mid-video without feeling like they're missing something, your structure is broken. Each sentence needs to either teach, prove, or create curiosity for the next one. I call this the Value Loop.
I published my 3-step content framework that I use for every single video I post. Also free.
I started earning before 10K followers. The creator fund is a joke — the real money is in building a system around your content. Digital products, coaching, community. Views are just the top of the funnel.

I just launched a free starter kit with my viral hooks, content frameworks, and growth tactics for TikTok & YouTube Shorts. No catch — it's how I'm building this community.
If you want the full monetization system (the exact process I used to go from zero to $60K), that's available too.
Either way, stop guessing. Start with the free resources and go from there.
Most creators obsess over the wrong things. Views. Follower count. Going viral.
I had 40M+ views on TikTok last year and earned almost $60K. But the money didn't come from views alone — it came from building systems.
Here's the reality most people won't tell you:
The Creator Fund is not a business model. At $0.02-$0.04 per 1,000 views, you need millions of views just to pay rent. It's a nice bonus, not a strategy.
Multiple revenue streams are non-negotiable. Platform payouts, brand deals, digital products, affiliate income — the creators making real money have 3-4 income streams running simultaneously.
Your first 10K followers are the hardest and most important. That's the threshold where everything unlocks — monetization programs, brand deals, live gifts. Everything before that is about proving your content resonates.
Consistency beats virality every single time. I post 5-7x per week. Most of my videos don't go viral. But the compound effect of showing up every day is what built a real income.
If you're a new creator trying to figure out how to actually get paid — not just get likes — I built a system around everything I've learned. It's inside my Whop.
