Your Square total is lying to you

Most solo shop owners think Square is the books.

It isn't.

Square shows card. Tips walk out in cash. Booth rent hits a different account. Product sales mix in. By March you have 11 months of "I think we did okay" and a CPA asking for a P&L that doesn't exist.

The fix is boring and it works:

  1. One folder. Square CSV every Sunday night.

  2. Cash drawer count on paper. Photo is fine.

  3. Separate tips from service. Always.

  4. A monthly P&L with three lines that matter: chair revenue, product, expenses.

If you can't answer "what did the chair actually make last month" in 30 seconds, you don't have books. You have a payment app.

That's the whole job.
