The Strategy for Buying Your First Luxury Watch

Most people buy their first luxury watch emotionally. The smarter approach is to buy it strategically.

When I started looking at luxury watches, I realised there are three common mistakes:

  1. Buying too early and settling for a watch you don’t truly want.

  2. Spending too much on the wrong watch because of hype.

  3. Constantly flipping watches and losing money along the way.

A better strategy:

Step 1: Define your goal watch

Know exactly what you’re working towards. Whether it’s an Omega, Tudor, Rolex, or another brand, having a clear target prevents impulse purchases.

Step 2: Research before spending

Learn the differences between brands, movements, servicing costs, and resale values. The more you know, the better your buying decision.

Step 3: Buy pre-owned when possible

Many luxury watches take their biggest depreciation hit in the first few years. Let someone else absorb that cost.

Step 4: Save consistently

A luxury watch should feel rewarding, not stressful. Set aside a fixed amount every month and enjoy the process of building towards the purchase.

Step 5: Buy the watch you’ll still love in 10 years

Trends come and go. A timeless watch with a design you genuinely enjoy will always outperform the latest social media favourite.

Step 6: Think beyond the purchase price

Factor in servicing, insurance, and maintenance. The true cost of ownership matters.

The biggest lesson? Your first luxury watch isn’t just a purchase—it’s a milestone. Take your time, enjoy the journey, and buy something that means something to you.

How to Make Your First £1,000 as a Personal Shopper

A lot of people think you need thousands of pounds in stock to start making money in luxury fashion.

You don’t.

If I was starting from zero today, this is exactly what I’d do:

Pick a niche

Focus on one category:

• Designer trainers

• Luxury clothing

• Handbags

• Watches

• Streetwear

Become known for one thing before expanding.

Learn where the deals are

Spend time checking:

• Seasonal sales

• Outlet stores

• Brand promotions

• Boutique discounts

The money is made when you know where to buy, not when you sell.

Build an audience

Post daily:

• Luxury deals

• New releases

• Price comparisons

• Styling content

• Sourcing wins

People buy from people they trust.

Offer a sourcing service

Instead of buying stock, help clients find the items they want and charge a sourcing fee.

Example:

Client wants a £500 designer jacket.

You source it for £400.

Client saves £100.

You earn a sourcing fee.

Everyone wins.

Reinvest every profit

Don’t spend the first £1,000.

Use it to:

• Increase your network

• Improve your content

• Access better opportunities

• Build credibility

The first £1,000 isn’t the goal.

The goal is building a reputation that makes the next £10,000 easier.

Luxury fashion is full of opportunities for those who can provide value, save clients time, and source products others can’t find.

What’s your biggest challenge when starting out as a personal shopper?

The Best Reselling Strategy in 2026? - Be a Personal Shopper, Not Just a Reseller.

A lot of people think reselling is about buying low and selling high. The reality is that the biggest opportunity today is sourcing.

The most successful personal shoppers focus on:

  • Finding luxury pieces before they sell out

  • Accessing seasonal sales and exclusive discounts

  • Sourcing rare sizes and colourways

  • Building relationships with boutiques and clients

  • Saving clients time while helping them secure the pieces they actually want

The value isn’t just in the product—it’s in the knowledge, access, and service behind it.

Whether it’s designer fashion, luxury trainers, handbags, or accessories, clients are increasingly willing to pay for someone who can source the right item at the right price.

The future of luxury reselling belongs to those who can consistently provide value, not just inventory.

What’s your view? Is sourcing becoming more important than traditional reselling?

5 Items You Can Flip This Weekend for $50+ Profit

Most people overthink reselling. They think you need a warehouse, capital, and connections. You don't.

Here are 5 things sitting in thrift stores right now that consistently sell for $50+ profit:

1. Vintage band tees — Anything pre-2000s with a good graphic. Buy for $3-5, sell for $40-80 on Depop or eBay.

2. Cast iron cookware — Lodge, Le Creuset, Griswold. People donate these constantly. $5 → $50-150.

3. Board games (sealed or complete) — Niche strategy games and discontinued titles. $2 → $30-80.

4. Denim jackets — Levi's, Wrangler, Lee. Especially oversized fits. $8 → $40-60.

5. Coffee table books — Art, photography, fashion. Big hardcovers in good condition. $1-3 → $25-50.

The key: look for things with a story, a brand, or a niche audience. Not everything flips — but these categories are consistently profitable.

I teach the full sourcing framework inside Sourced By You — how to find, price, list, and sell. If you're serious about building a reselling side hustle, come through.
