The AI prompt that actually got me replies (and why most cold outreach prompts don't work)
Spent the last few months testing AI-written outreach on freelancers and small agency owners. Here's the pattern that separates prompts that get replies from ones that get ignored:
Most AI outreach prompts fail because they ask the model to "write a cold DM" with zero constraints. You get generic, salesy copy that reads like every other AI message a prospect has seen this week.
What actually works is forcing the model to anchor on one specific, observable thing about the prospect — a recent post, a tool they use, a gap in their offer — and write toward that, not toward your pitch. The pitch becomes one line at the end, not the whole message.
Structure that's been converting for me:
One sentence referencing something specific and true about them
One sentence connecting it to a problem you solve
One low-friction question (not "can we hop on a call")
That's it. No hype, no emojis, no "I hope this finds you well."
I built out a full pack of these — cold outreach, follow-ups, and sales messages — along with templates for proposals and invoices, inside SP AI Business Vault. Free tier gets you 10 prompts and 2 templates to test this yourself before paying for anything.
