The Fourth-Plan Test: How to Spot the Commitment Gap Before It Costs You Another Month

After 3 dates and 2 late-night texts, the pattern usually shows up in the calendar — not the conversation.

You know the feeling. The messages come fast, plans get floated, there's this energy that feels like it's building toward something. But then the fourth plan gets vague. The follow-up stops escalating. And you're left wondering if what you're reading is intent — or just warmth.

Here's the thing most people miss:

Quick replies don't mean commitment. Late-night texts don't mean priority. Promising plans that never land don't mean momentum. They mean someone is comfortable — and comfort without action is just delay.

The Commitment Gap Map

I built a framework that tracks three things:

  • Timing — Are plans getting closer together, or spreading out?

  • Follow-through — Does what they say match what they do within 48 hours?

  • Escalation — Is the relationship moving forward, or just circling?

When interest stops becoming intent, that's the commitment gap. And it almost always shows up by the fourth plan.

The Fourth-Plan Test

Look at your last three plans with someone. Were they confirmed or vague? Initiated by them or only by you? Now look at the fourth. If the pattern is "suggest → delay → reschedule → ghost," you're not in a slow burn. You're in a loop.

Warm messages without firm plans are not momentum.

Last-minute availability is not the same as being prioritized.

Reassurance that never becomes action is still delay.

You don't need to name the spark. You need to name the gap.

This free ebook walks you through the full framework. No fluff. No "just communicate more." Just a clear map for what to actually watch for — so you can stop chasing clarity and start evaluating behavior.
