Why most gaming clips look mid (and how to fix it)

Most highlight clips fail for one reason: they're just screen recordings with a song slapped on top.

Here's what actually makes a clip go viral:

1. The cut matters more than the play

A 3-kill clip with a perfect cut at the right frame hits harder than a 1v5 ace with bad editing. Timing is everything.

2. Color grade = instant quality boost

Raw footage looks flat. A proper LUT or manual grade makes your clips look like they belong in a pro esports broadcast.

3. Sound design is underrated

Hit sounds, impact SFX, tempo-matched music. When the bass drops with your shot landing — that's what gets replayed.

4. Keep it under 60 seconds

Retention drops off a cliff past 60 seconds. Trim the fat. If the clip doesn't have a clear peak moment in the first 10 seconds, cut it again.

That's how we edit every clip at HighlightHQ. 🎬
