The 3 software decisions that silently kill early-stage startups

Most early-stage startup failures aren't product failures. They're architecture failures that show up 12-18 months later when it's too expensive to fix.

Here are the three I see founders get wrong constantly:

1. Choosing the "cool" stack instead of the right one

React + Next.js + Postgres + Prisma isn't exciting anymore — and that's exactly why it's often the right answer. Every custom framework choice is technical debt you'll owe later. Unless you have a specific reason to deviate, boring and proven beats cutting-edge every time pre-product-market fit.

2. Building infrastructure before product

Kubernetes, microservices, and complex CI/CD pipelines are not problems you have at 0-10k users. They're problems you want to have. I've watched founders spend 3 months on DevOps setup before writing a single line of product code. Ship first, scale second.

3. Hiring senior engineers too early

A $200k engineer who wants to architect systems is the wrong hire when you need to ship an MVP. You want someone who can work scrappy, move fast, and not flinch at refactoring everything in 6 months. Seniority is about context — and early-stage context is different.

The startups that get this right ship faster, burn less capital, and have codebases they can actually maintain.

Drop a comment if you're navigating any of these — happy to dig in.
