Why 'leg day' is the wrong question if you're training for Hyrox or DEKA
Most people prepping for a functional race (Hyrox, DEKA, hybrid comps) still train like bodybuilders: bench Monday, legs Tuesday, arms Friday. Then they get to race day and fall apart on station 4.
Here's the problem — a race isn't a series of isolated efforts. It's fatigue stacking: you run 1km, THEN your legs have to push a sled, THEN your grip has to survive a sandbag carry, THEN your lungs have to recover fast enough to row. Training body parts in isolation doesn't prepare you for that.
The fix — station-stacking:
Instead of "leg day," build a block like this:
800m run
20 wall balls
400m sled push
15 burpees
800m run
Rest 3 min, repeat x3.
Notice: no exercise happens in isolation. Your legs are already cooked when your grip has to fire. That's what actually breaks people on race day — not weak muscles, weak transitions.
If you're training for a hybrid race and your program still looks like a PPL split, that's the gap. Happy to answer questions if anyone's building toward Hyrox/DEKA this cycle — that's all we program at StationZero.
