3 sticker design mistakes that make your packaging look cheap (and how to fix them)
Been printing custom stickers for brands and creators, and the same 3 mistakes show up constantly. If you're using stickers for packaging or merch, check these first:
1️⃣ Too much white space around die-cut edges. A tight die-cut (contour cut close to the design) reads as premium. A big rectangular sticker with a tiny logo in the middle reads as an afterthought. Cut close to your art.
2️⃣ Low contrast color choices. Pastel-on-white or light-on-light designs look great on a screen but wash out in print, especially outdoors or on kraft paper boxes. Bump your saturation up ~10-15% from what looks 'right' on screen — vinyl printing tends to mute colors slightly.
3️⃣ Ignoring the 'stick test.' If a sticker doesn't make someone want to put it on their laptop, water bottle, or car, it's not doing its job as a brand touchpoint. Ask: would a stranger wear this? If the answer's no, simplify the design — bold shape, 1-2 colors, no fine text.
