What actually makes a gaming clip go viral (from running a clipping campaign)

Been building out a clipping campaign for streamer/gaming highlights, and a pattern keeps showing up in the clips that pop off vs. the ones that flatline at 200 views.

A few things that consistently separate winners:

1. The hook is in the first 1.5 seconds, not the first 5. If the clip needs context before it gets good, it's the wrong clip. Cold open on the reaction, the outplay, or the punchline — explain nothing.

2. Captions carry more weight than the footage. Most viewers watch muted. A clip with mid gameplay but a captioned callout ("he didn't even see it coming") outperforms a clean clip with no text almost every time.

3. Length is a liability past 30 seconds unless the moment itself escalates. Shorter clips get full watch-throughs, and completion rate is what the algorithm actually rewards.

4. Volume beats perfection. Clippers who post 5 mediocre clips a day outperform clippers who post 1 "perfect" clip a week. You don't know which moment hits until it's live.

If you're a clipper looking for footage to cut and get paid per 1,000 views, or a streamer/brand wanting a pipeline of creators clipping your content, that's exactly what we're building at StreamCuts. Happy to share more about how the reward structure works if useful.
