The 3 exercises every beginner should master before anything else

I've been a PE teacher for years, and I see the same mistake over and over: people jump into complex routines before they can do the basics properly.

If you're just getting into fitness, forget the fancy stuff. Master these three movements first:

1. The Bodyweight Squat

Most people can't do a proper squat with full range of motion. If your heels come up or your knees cave in, you're not ready for weighted squats. Period. Drill this until it's effortless.

2. The Dead Hang

Grab a pull-up bar and just hang. Can you hold for 30 seconds? Most beginners can't. This builds grip strength, decompresses your spine, and sets the foundation for pull-ups down the road.

3. The Plank (done right)

Not the 5-minute plank challenge nonsense. A proper 30-second plank with your glutes squeezed, core braced, and no sagging. Quality over quantity, always.

Get these three locked in and you'll be ahead of 90% of gym-goers who skip fundamentals.

I break down exactly how to progress from zero in my courses — form videos, weekly plans, and a community of beginners all working through it together.
