BIOS and Windows power plan settings for competitive FPS

Essential Gaming Optimization Guide

Welcome to the community! Follow this walkthrough to tune your system for optimal performance and minimal latency.

1. Safety Precautions

  • Always create a System Restore Point before tweaking settings or registry entries.

  • Export a backup copy of any modified registry keys.

2. Walkthrough & Tweaks

  • Follow the focused tuning steps for your configuration.

  • Strip unneeded background telemetry and disable latency-inducing background services.

3. Expected Improvements

  • 10-25% improvement in 1% frametime lows and elimination of micro-stutter.

  • Lower input latency and crisper mouse response in competitive matches.

Getting Started: Competitive PC Optimization Guide

In-Game Competitive FPS & Input Latency Benchmarks

Welcome to Strongdog XP! Before and after applying optimizations, tracking frametime consistency and input latency ensures your tweaks deliver real competitive gains.

1. Accurate Testing Methodology

  • Use CapFrameX or RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) to log frametimes over repeatable in-game benchmark loops or deathmatch rounds (minimum 3 runs per setting change).

  • Test in realistic competitive scenarios (e.g., full player lobby) rather than standing still in empty maps.

2. Frametimes vs. Peak FPS

  • Do not just watch peak FPS—focus on 1% Low and 0.1% Low metrics.

  • A stable 240 FPS with flat frametime lines feels significantly faster and more responsive than an erratic 300 FPS experiencing micro-drops.

3. Display Latency & G-Sync/FreeSync Setup

  • For variable refresh rate displays: Enable G-Sync/FreeSync + V-Sync in GPU Control Panel, then cap your frame rate 3 FPS below your monitor's maximum refresh rate (e.g., cap at 237 FPS on a 240Hz monitor) to prevent V-Sync buffer latency.

Post your benchmark logs and system specs below so we can fine-tune your configuration!
