5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting College
Starting college (or even high school) without the right tools is like showing up to a test without a pencil. Here's what I learned the hard way:
1. Your planner is your lifeline. I used to think I could keep everything in my head. I couldn't. A good planner template literally saved my GPA.
2. Notes ≠ studying. Just writing stuff down isn't enough. You need structured notes that actually help you review — not just pages of scribbles.
3. Reading example essays is a cheat code. Before I started reading strong essays, I had no idea what professors actually wanted. Seeing the structure and flow of an A-level essay changed everything.
4. Free resources online are a mess. You spend more time searching than studying. Having everything organized in one place is worth its weight in gold.
5. Community matters. Studying alone burns you out. Having a group to share tips, ask questions, and keep each other accountable is underrated.
That's exactly why I built StudentHaven — cute planner templates, study notes, example essays, and a community of students who actually want to do well.
