Minglish runs on your own computer using free tools (Ollama and Python). There’s no subscription, no account, no API key, and no per-message cost. Pay once, use it as much as you like.
What makes it different
Minglish Bridge: mix your own language into the one you’re learning. The teacher keeps the conversation going, shows your sentence upgraded to natural speech, and explains why in your language.
Help Ladder: no instant-translate button. Hints come in four steps: nudge, first words, sentence frame, translation.
Shadow Me: repeat a line aloud and get scored word by word.
Mistake Garden: your mistakes are saved and woven into later lessons.
Curriculum mode: a unit plan for your level (teach, practise, use it, quick check), or free chat if you prefer.
Scenes: classroom, underwater, holiday, restaurant, cafe, airport, market.
Hands-free voice chat with an accent setting (for example Mancunian) to help the teacher understand you.
Practice bundle: one click downloads a ZIP with your transcript, feedback, practice sheet and flashcards.
Languages: 89, from Spanish and Japanese to Swahili and Latin. Big languages work best.
What you need: a computer that can run a 7B model (8 GB+ RAM recommended; a smaller 3B option is included in the setup notes), Python, Ollama, and Chrome or Edge for the microphone. Setup takes about 15 minutes, and the instructions are included.
