Why most beginners quit yoga in the first two weeks (and how to not be one of them)

I started Sunlit Yoga Studio because I kept watching the same pattern play out: someone gets excited, buys a mat, tries a studio class, feels lost next to people who've been doing this for years, and never comes back.

It's almost never a flexibility problem. It's an environment problem.

A few things that actually move the needle for true beginners:

  1. Practice where no one can see you. The single biggest unlock is removing the audience. You cannot learn a new movement pattern while also managing social anxiety about how you look doing it.

  2. Ignore "beginner" classes that assume you know poses already. A lot of "beginner" content still assumes you know what downward dog, chaturanga, or a vinyasa are. Real beginner content explains everything, every time, no assumed vocabulary.

  3. Consistency beats intensity by a landslide. 15 minutes, 4x a week for a month will change how you move and feel far more than one brutal 90-minute class you dread repeating.

  4. Track showing up, not flexibility. Flexibility gains are slow and non-linear — if that's your only metric, you'll feel like you're failing even when you're not. Track sessions completed instead.

If you've bounced off yoga before, it probably wasn't you. It was the format. Worth trying again with a setup actually built for where you're starting from.
