3 things I wish I knew before I started trading futures
I blew my first account in 2 weeks. Here's what I'd tell myself if I could go back:
1. You don't need to trade every day.
The market isn't going anywhere. The best traders I know sit on their hands 80% of the time. One clean setup > five forced trades.
2. Risk management IS the strategy.
Everyone wants the perfect entry. Nobody talks about position sizing, stop placement, or knowing when to walk away. That's where the money actually is.
3. Consistency beats performance.
A trader who makes $200/day every day will outperform someone who makes $5K one day and loses $4K the next. Boring wins.
I've been trading futures full-time for years now and these three things are still the foundation of everything I do. If you're just starting out or struggling with consistency, get these right first — the rest falls into place.
