There's something changing about how people discover businesses online that a lot of businesses haven't fully caught up with yet.
For years, the basic formula was:
Someone searches Google → they see websites → they click a website.
So businesses learned about SEO — Search Engine Optimization.
Keywords.
Backlinks.
Page speed.
Content.
Rankings.
But now people are increasingly asking AI systems questions instead of simply searching for a list of websites.
For example:
"What's the best software for a small business?"
"Which accounting service should I use?"
"What are the best schools in my area?"
"What's the best tool for managing social media?"
The answer may come directly from an AI-powered search experience.
And that creates a new question for businesses:
How do you make your business more likely to be understood, mentioned, and surfaced by answer engines?
That's where AEO — Answer Engine Optimization — comes in.
It's an area I'm becoming increasingly interested in because it changes the way we think about online visibility.
SEO asks:
"How do I rank?"
AEO increasingly asks:
"How do I become a useful answer?"
Those aren't exactly the same problem.
The AEO Playbook focuses on this shift and how businesses can think about visibility in the age of AI search.
Whether you're running a business, building a personal brand, creating content, or working in marketing, I think this is an area worth paying attention to.
Because imagine spending years building your online presence around how traditional search worked — only to realize that the way people discover information has changed.
The interesting part is that we're still relatively early.
That means there is a lot to learn.
