Most career panic about AI is vague. "Will I be replaced?" is the wrong question. The useful one is: which parts of my work already look like a prompt, and which parts still need judgment, relationships, or taste?

Do this once this week. Open a notes app. List the 10 tasks you actually spent time on last week. Put each one in a column:

1. AI can already do this end to end

First drafts, meeting notes, basic research summaries, formatting, simple data cleanup.

2. AI can assist, but I still decide

Client recommendations, hiring shortlists, campaign strategy, debugging a messy process, explaining a tradeoff to a stakeholder.

3. Only I can do this

Trust with a specific client, knowing how your company actually ships, taste in your field, holding a hard conversation, spotting when the "right" answer is politically wrong.

If column 1 is most of your week, the risk is real, and it is specific. You now know what to stop being the person for.

If column 3 is thin, that is the gap. Those are transferable skills. They survive the next tool, because they are not a tool.

Four that keep showing up in people who stay hired:

• Problem framing. Naming the real constraint before anyone opens a model.

• Taste. Knowing what "good enough" looks like in your domain.

• Translation. Turning a messy request into a brief other people, or models, can execute.

• Ownership. Being the person who ships, follows up, and takes the blame when it is wrong.

A 7-day start, no course required:

1. Do the 10-task audit.

2. Pick one column-1 task and write a repeatable prompt or checklist so it takes half the time.

3. Pick one column-3 skill and write where you used it in the last 90 days, with a result attached.

4. Ask one person you work with what they come to you for. Compare it to your list.

5. Cut or automate one column-1 task. Do not fill the time with more busywork. Put it on a column-3 skill.

6. Write a 5-line "how I work with AI" note you could paste into a review or LinkedIn About.

7. Choose one 90-day bet: a skill to deepen, a role to explore, or a proof piece to publish.

If you want a simple 90-day shape after that: 30 days to get honest about your skills, 30 days to build one proof of work, 30 days to put that proof in front of the right people.

Curious what landed in your column 3. Drop one skill that still only you can do. That list is more useful than any tool roundup.
