5 cognitive biases silently running your life

Most of your decisions aren't really yours. They're shortcuts your brain takes without asking permission.

Here are 5 that trip up almost everyone:

1. Confirmation Bias — You don't search for truth. You search for evidence that you're already right. That's why two people can look at the same data and reach opposite conclusions.

2. The Halo Effect — If someone is attractive or successful, you automatically assume they're also smart, kind, and trustworthy. One positive trait bleeds into everything.

3. Sunk Cost Fallacy — You stay in bad relationships, bad jobs, and bad investments because of what you've already put in — not because of what you'll get out.

4. Anchoring — The first number you see sets your expectations. That's why a $200 shirt marked down to $120 feels like a deal, even if it's worth $80.

5. The Spotlight Effect — You think everyone notices your mistakes. They don't. They're too busy worrying about their own.

Once you see these, you can't unsee them. They show up in every conversation, every purchase, every scroll.

I break down patterns like these every week inside The Behavior Lab. If you want to actually understand why people (including you) do what they do — come join us.
