3 things I wish someone told me after my bipolar diagnosis
I spent years figuring this out the hard way. Here's what actually helped:
1. Tracking your moods is non-negotiable.
Not in a "journal every feeling" way. I mean a simple daily check-in that takes 30 seconds. The patterns you'll see after 2 weeks will genuinely shock you. You'll start catching episodes before they spiral.
2. Your routine matters more than your motivation.
When you're hypomanic, motivation is unlimited. When you're depressed, it's nonexistent. So stop relying on it. Build a bare-minimum routine that works in BOTH states. Mine is 3 things: some medication, a walk (gets fresh some air), one meal. Everything else is bonus.
3. You need a crisis plan BEFORE the crisis.
Write it when you're stable. Who to call, what meds to take, what to avoid. Tape it to your fridge. Future you will thank present you.
I run @bipolar.memes on Instagram and I put everything I've learned into an 11-page guide called The Bipolar Life Kit. It's the resource I wish existed when I was diagnosed.
If any of this resonated - you're not alone in this. ๐
