Stop setting up Square POS. Nobody is running Square Register for a shop that has not sold.
Square will sell you a terminal, Square Register, inventory SKUs, and a tap-to-pay dongle. You can have the dashboard looking like a counter by lunchtime. You have not taken a payment. You have not got a customer in front of you. You are stocking Square for a shop that does not exist.
Square records sales. If there are no sales, it records a zero. The hardware is not your problem. The missing buyer is.
Do this today:
Write down what you would log as a SKU. If the list is one service you have not priced, you do not need Square Register. You need a price someone can accept.
Take one payment without a terminal. A checkout link or a bank transfer. Put the customer's name and what they bought in a file you control. That is a sale. A Square dashboard on zero is not.
When you have ten paying customers and a reason they would stand at a counter, then look at a terminal. Until then the dongle is a paperweight with a fee.
If you are setting up Square because a high-street till looks more real than a message, you are solving a costume, not a business. A register does not invoice. A customer does.
What are you logging in Square that has not made you a pound?
