My Morning Routine Before Market Open (Pre-Market Checklist)

The trade is won or lost before you even click buy. Here's my exact pre-market routine:

6:00 AM — Check overnight futures and global markets. Are we gapping up or down? What's the sentiment? This tells me whether I'm looking for longs or shorts today.

6:30 AM — Review economic calendar. FOMC? CPI data? Earnings? If there's a high-impact event, I either trade the reaction or stay flat. Never hold through news as a scalper.

7:00 AM — Mark key levels on my charts. Previous day high/low, pre-market high/low, VWAP, and any major support/resistance zones. These are my decision points — I don't trade in between.

7:30 AM — Build my watchlist. Max 3 tickers. If I'm watching 10 stocks, I'm not focused on any of them. Quality over quantity.

8:00 AM — Set alerts, size positions, and wait. No chasing. No FOMO. The setup comes to me, or I don't trade.

9:30 AM — First 15 minutes: OBSERVE ONLY. Let the amateurs get shaken out. The real moves start after the opening noise settles.

This routine took me from inconsistent to profitable. It's not flashy, but it works.

The 3 Rules That Stopped Me From Blowing Up My Account

Every beginner trader blows up at least one account. Here's what separates the ones who recover from the ones who quit:

Rule 1: Never risk more than 1% per trade.

If you have a $5,000 account, your max loss per trade is $50. Not $500. Not "just this once." One percent. Every single time. This one rule alone keeps you in the game long enough to actually learn.

Rule 2: No trade is better than a bad trade.

The money you don't lose is just as valuable as the money you make. If your setup isn't textbook, sit on your hands. The market will be there tomorrow.

Rule 3: Journal every single trade.

Win or lose, write down: entry, exit, why you took it, what you felt. After 50 trades, patterns emerge. Your journal is your edge — not some indicator.

Most people treat trading like gambling. They chase, they revenge trade, they size up after a loss. That's how you go broke.

Disciplined trading is boring. That's the point. Boring is profitable.

I built an entire system around rule-based scalping for volatile markets. If you want the full framework, check out the course in this community.
